We are happy to have your interest to volunteer with us.
We are an organisation called Green People, working towards reverse migration of marginalized farmers via two channels namely ‘The Goat Village’ & ‘Bakri Chhap’. The former is promoting farm retreats/ home stays and reviving abandoned villages by leveraging their tourism potential and the latter by providing market linkage to indigenous farm produce from the community that we work with.
The Goat Village: Devoid of electricity, road, conventional comforts and zero spent on paid advertising - The Goat Village - a conceptually new blend of eco, farm and rural tourism - is a multiple hospitality & tourism awards winning project, including the 'Indian Responsible Tourism Award 2019', in just three years of its existence. The portfolio consists of 6 farm-retreats & home-stays across Uttarakhand as of now.
Bakri Chhap: is a fast emerging retail brand which has striven to make traditional farming practices profitable for the marginalized farmers, by eliminating middlemen and by working in close co-branding and marketing collaborations with luxury hotels such as JW Marriott, Ananda in the Himalayas, Aloha on the Ganges, JayPee, to name a few (who are also our B2B buyers); retail chains like Tata STAR Bazaar & Amazon, and with few celebrity chefs & bloggers from the metropolitan cities.
Green People Kisan Vikas Samiti: is a non-profit arm that has helped organize initiatives such as vaccination & insurance camps for the livestock, creating awareness on compassionate animal husbandry practices using unconventional methods, skill development of village youth, front range exposure and training of young village boys and girls at luxury hotels & in green-tourism. The co-operative is also running free of cost computer training institutes in villages.
Here's a bit more about our initiatives towards integrated rural development, along with few media links: https://goo.gl/46ejxW
On the onset, we would like to communicate a few fundamental issues before we proceed further. We are a four year old, start-up, social enterprise founded with the purpose of ushering in sustainable social and environmental changes in the hilly terrains of Uttarakhand. Anyone who is aware of the Indian rural sector canvas and ease of operating for first generation enterprises like ours; would know how tumultuous our journey can be. We operate in a highly infrastructure, capital and skill deficient ecosystem; where our efforts and energy is spent in structural and cultural reforms using tourism as a prop to help the fence-sitting rural flock in the towns and cities reverse migrate and find more long lasting and sustainable engagement in their indigenous age-old professions back in their otherwise abandoned homes, farmlands and villages.
